Action Line & News

March 2010

Dear RFT Member,

In this difficult economy, with the state losing billions of dollars and the Roseville Community Schools feeling the pinch as well, we need strong, experienced union leadership.

With that in mind, I have decided to run for the RFT presidency. I began my union career as a building representative in 1992. In the past six years I have been an RFT officer, holding positions as Secretary and Secondary Vice President. During this time, I have been privileged to work with several different presidents. I have also been an active participant of the contract negotiating team for the past four years.

Since joining the RFT Executive Board, I have attended numerous trainings and conferences. My background includes instruction in negotiating, leadership and strategic planning. I continue to monitor the latest news from Lansing as it pertains to education.

I believe that I have the necessary experience in union affairs to handle the challenges that the future holds for us in the Roseville Community Schools. While the current central and building administrations and I do not always agree, I believe we share a mutual respect for one another. This will be imperative if we are to work together to tackle the challenges that lie ahead.

In conclusion, I am willing to work harder and smarter for you.

Sincerely,

Gary J. Scheff
RFT Local 1071
Secondary Vice President
