If you are thinking about or actively planning on retiring in the near future, retiring is a fairly simply process if you have all of the information and paper work you need to complete the process. The Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System (MPSERS) can provide all of this information for you, in addition to answers to a variety of questions you may have about retirement planning, and up to date information for current retirees.
The AFT Michigan Retiree Network also offers workshops throughout the state for retirees and those thinking of retirement. Contact an RFT officer or firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Your Lifelong Membership
AFT members who retire are ensured a lifelong membership in the national union as soon as their local union updates their status from “working” to “retired, active” in its membership reports to the AFT.
As a retired AFT national member, you will receive the same AFT periodical you got while you were a working member and you will maintain access to most AFT + member benefits. Go to AFT Retires for resources and information available to AFT retirees.
